Branch Report delivered at the District Convention, October 4, 2008In October of last year, members of Otis-Culliton WI were busy organizing our only fund raiser for the year. We all brought in Christmas items for the previous two months and we made a huge basket which we sold tickets on until our Christmas meeting - netting us a profit of $404.00. Our president, Bonnie Connors was able to lay our wreath at the cenotaph on November 11. We sent $25.00 to UNICEF. For Christmas we had a pot-luck supper at the home of Sherrill Bradley. We answered roll call with non-perishable items to make a Christmas basket for the W.I. home in Woodstock. We sent cards to all former members and donated $50.00 to our local Christmas Daddies. All year long we answered roll-call with paper products, non-perishable items, pillow covers, dish cloths and towels which go to the W.I. home. In March were to be entertained by the Lower St. Marys WI, but due to the inclement weather, Marie Matchett was the only member from Otis-Culliton attending. It was a great evening enjoyed by all. Our first financial donation from the sale of the Sheffield W.I. hall went to the Town of Nackawic to help with a new skate park and playground equipment. Our next donation went towards a face lift for the park by the Axe. In total we donated $2030.00 towards town projects. Our President, Bonnie Connors, represented us at the provincial convention in May. Kelsey Corey was the winner of our $100.00 W.I. bursary which was presented to her by her grandmother, Edna Corey, at the graduation ceremony in June. Also in June, the ladies traveled to Fredericton and we held an afternoon meeting, with a pot-luck dinner as we headed into our summer break. When September rolled around we entertained the Southampton, Dumfries, Keswick Ridge and New Maryland W.I. ladies. We are fortunate to have an afghan and cushion donated by the daughter of our oldest member, Leona Munroe, for our final fund raiser this year. The eleven current members of Otis-Cullition WI are off to another busy season! Branch Report delivered at the District Convention, September 22, 2007Otis-Culliton W.I. consists of 8-9 regular members along with a number of non-active members. We hold our meetings at our homes, with each member taking a turn at being hostess. Roll call is often answered with paper products, dish cloths, towels, pillow protectors and cards. All of these items are forwarded to the W.I. Home in Woodstock. We also support the Canadian Red Cross and the breakfast program at our schools. A year ago in February we hosted a tea for the War Brides, which was a great success. To bring further awareness and to create a lot of interest this past February we hosted an open house to which we invited Richard Blaquiere as our guest speaker. In March of last year our W.I. visited the Southampton Branch, along with Dumfries ladies. We all enjoyed a night of games, music and fellowship. In June we gave a bursary to Jessica Fox, a member's daughter; she will further her education at Moncton. We have given $1000 of our share of the Sheffield Hall Sale to the Town of Nackawic to help build an International Garden. Our name will appear on the plaque at the entrance of this garden. Since then we have applied for an additional $1000 to be given to the Town for a new play ground at the water front and a new skate board park. Each year in late June or early July we do have an outing before a break for the summer. Last year we went to Woodstock where we toured O'Tooles Gallery, the Davenport Gardens and we ate at the new restaurant, Simply Dining. This past year we went to Fredericton where we toured the Ducks Unlimited building and heard about their children's programs. We then headed for the Botanical Gardens, stopped at King's Landing for a quick break before we had supper at the Moonlight Inn. We may be small in numbers but we hope that we make a difference to someone somewhere! May all W.I. Branches enjoy a worth while season! © Copyright 2008 Sheila Washburn |
