Quilts of Valour - Canada has a mission: To ensure that our wounded Canadian soldiers are recognized for their bravery and commitment of their true patriotism to our country. We give this support through the presentation of quilts of comfort made for our military service people.
QOV Canada quilts are whatever you want to make - although a recommended size is roughly 50 inches X 60 inches. People have discussed a smaller lap quilt for those confined to wheelchairs. Long arm quilters are also willing to quilt. It is up to the quilter and the quilt topper to determine who will provide the backing, the batting and the binding.
The QOV Canada is also encouraging making a "pillow" or tote for the quilt. It has been suggested to make the tote with handles so that it could be used with the wheelchair too. It is not mandatory, merely a suggestion.
As for distribution, we are relying on the various chaplains, padres and the Land Forces Bases to come to our assistance for getting quilts to our wounded. It is up to the quilter to get the quilts to these bases - their addresses can be forwarded when there is a quilt ready!

Women of New Maryland WI with Quilt of Valour. |
The New Maryland WI has been active since 1918. We currently meet in the Victoria Hall at 2 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, September through June. Victoria Hall was built by the Branch but is now the property of the Village of New Maryland. The Hall is located on Highway 101 within the Village. The Branch has 11 active members and two Life Members.
The New Maryland WI has purchased a fleece throw as our donation to the organization called "Quilts of Valour -Canada" which is described to the right. The Provincial office of the NBWI are forwarding these quilts to the appropriate Land Forces Base. Our quilt has a picture of wolves on the front and a plain blue back and it should be appropriate for any returning injured soldier. Click on little pictures to see enlargements.
Victoria Hall was the location of the WI Loyalist District 1 Spring Planning Meeting held on April 16, 2009 from 2 until 4 p.m. Twenty-one women from the district attended this meeting. Betty Nicholson and Maudie Boyle were presented with their NBWI life membership pins and certificates by Idella Jones, Branch President and Sheila Washburn, District President.
