Emily Walker, Ruth MacLeod, James Thomas

On Monday September 10 the Lower St. Marys Women's Institute awarded their scholarships to two first year students at UNB. The winners who each received $200 were Emily Walker and James Thomas of Fredericton, grandchildren of WI member Ruth Elliott. A portion of each scholarship was given by the Branch in memory of M.J. Hamilton, a founding member of the Branch, and the remainder came from the Branch's share of the Sheffield Women's Institute Hall Trust Fund. Chair of the Scholarship Committee, Ruth (Hamilton) MacLeod made the presentations assisted by Committee member Doris McKnight, not shown.

Mary Lynch and Ruth MacLeod of the LSMWI

The other two pictures on this page show the Lower St. Mary's WI women at work and play. The Cat in the Hat is Ruth MacLeod, who was president at the the time, and her Secretary Mary Lynch.

Outing to St. Andrews for the LSMWI

The second picture was taken at a summer outing. Some of us were gathered outside the log cabin of Artist Mary Hashey where we had been viewing her paintings of St. Andrews, the work of a lifetime.

The Lower St. Marys WI usually meets at members homes on the first Monday of the month, September through June. The executive are: President Sheila Washburn (506-472-3842), Secretary Noreen Wetmore (506-472-7065), Treasurer Frances McDonnell (506-450-3109). We welcome your inquiries about joining our Branch.
